Murray & Santino Announce Car Seat Safety Inspection Summer Schedule

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Senior Councilman Anthony J. Santino announced the summer schedule for the Town’s Child Car Seat Safety Inspection Program.

The town’s certified child passenger safety technicians will inspect and properly install child car safety seats and instruct guardians on their proper installation.  New York State law requires that children under the age of 8 are restrained in an appropriate child restraint system when riding in a motor vehicle.

“Hempstead Town’s certified child passenger safety technicians will check to be sure that your car and booster seats are properly positioned and correctly installed in your vehicle in order to provide the best protection for your young passengers,” stated Supervisor Kate Murray.

Long Beach Road Streetscape Project Update

Town of Hempstesd Senior Councilman Anthony J. Santino was joined by Supervisor Kate Murray and Senator Dean Skelos in Oceanside along Long Beach Road for a visual inspection of streetscape progress.

New concrete walkways, brick paving stonres, decorative Victorian lighting and trash receptacles are being installed on the west side of Long Beach Road between Tilrose Avenue and Poole Street.

“Beautifying our downtowns is a welcome addition to our commercial areas for residents, business owners and shoppers,” Santino said. “This busy thoroughfare in Oceanside will certainly benefit from these enhancements.”

Town Honors Outstanding Women at Annual Pathfinder Awards

Supervisor Kate Murray, Senior Councilman Anthony J. Santino and other members of the Hempstead Town Board honored nine women who live or work in the Town of Hempstead for their outstanding contributions to the community at the town’s annual Pathfinder Awards ceremony Tuesday.

An inspiring keynote speech was delivered by Long Island’s own Christine Conniff Sheahan, founder, publisher and CEO of Networking Magazine, a national award-winning publication for enterprising executives. Ms. Sheahan began her career as an illustrator and started her own publishing corporation in 1981 and launched Networking Magazine in 1991.

East Rockaway Post Office to be Renamed; House approves ‘John J. Cook’ Post Office

The U.S. House of Representatives passed Rep. Carolyn McCarthy’s (D-NY4) bill to rename the East Rockaway, New York Post Office after a letter carrier and local resident who worked there for over 60 years. The H.R. 2079 bill will officially name the post office in East Rockaway the “John J. Cook Post Office.”

“John Cook served the East Rockaway community as a letter carrier for multiple generations of families,” McCarthy said.  “For over 60 years, Mr. Cook proved to be a model federal employee by displaying professionalism, courtesy, and tireless dedication. He was truly a remarkable individual and this will be a fitting tribute to an extraordinary man. I’m proud to have helped in this effort to honor the memory of this outstanding American citizen.”
